On a bitterly cold morning, I embarked on a photo shoot in the breathtaking Absorska wilderness. Despite the 20-below temperatures, my determination to encounter some wildlife was unwavering. As I made my way through the snow-covered terrain, my breaths materialized into frosty puffs, adding to the ethereal beauty of the scene.
I came across a clearing. And there, right before me, was a cow moose. Her white-frosted body was a stark contrast against the snowy landscape, and she was busy feeding on the nearby willow shrubs.
As I watched her, a young bull moose emerged from the timber, making a beeline for the cow. As the young bull approached the cow, they gently touched noses. It was like they knew each other, maybe even mother and son. The two moose stood there, nose to nose, for several seconds, their breaths steaming in the frigid air. I got the photo at that moment, plus several after.
I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe as I watched this intimate moment between the two animals. It was a reminder that even amid a harsh and unforgiving wilderness winter, there could be moments of tenderness and connection.
